It is the responsibility of the local council to ensure that every child has a primary school place.  Lambeth Labour have no plans to address this issue apart from cramming more kids into existing schools.  In fact, they voted down a proposal by Conservative Councillors to designate an unused site into one that could become a primary school.

“When we were at the Lambeth Country Show campaigning on this issue,  many parents were happy that we were taking up as Labour are not offering a solution” said Hamish “ Many complained that they had been denied a school place of their choice, some had not even been offered a suitable place at all”.

This problem will only get worse with each year. Conservatives are looking to the future. Labour were quick to sell off primary school sites in the nineties, but they are so slow to fix the mess they made.

“As a mother who has had to deal with the same issues when my son was starting primary school, I understand the difficulties parents are facing and we have to do something about this now,” says Bettie Morton.

• On July 15th, £200 million was designated for hot spots in local councils with shortages, such as Herne Hill.
• Suitable sites are scarce and securing permission for an additional school is vital now.
• If Labour refuses to build new schools on the sites we have found, the opportunity for a new school in Herne Hill could be lost for generations as the money will be given to other areas.
